How to Avoid "The Wall"
It may have been the fact that like an idiot I ran a 10K the day after a 5K, but for the first time I felt like I hit that "wall" that I read about in the running mags. Lesson learned.

How to Avoid "The Wall"
There are a few workouts or races every year when everything is going well…until the end. Within 100 yards or so, you shift from feeling strong and under control to questioning whether you are going to finish. You’ve hit the wall: there’s no bounce in the muscles, energy level drops, and your breathing rate increases. You find yourself struggling even when the pace slows down dramatically. More ...

Seven Miles with Arlington Road Runners
I'm back from my seven mile run. I'm back with my regular group, the Yellow team, after a rough experience last week out on my own. The route this week was called "Rock Creek to Calvert Street" and was nice and flat and very scenic. The pace was perfect - with a 3:1 interval - and I felt really good for the entire run.
I'm not looking to break any records, just get used to mileage and be able to walk the next day. Next Saturday we run 7 miles as well.
Distance: 6.99 miles
Time: 1:33:32
I have a 5K on Monday and a 10K on Tuesday. (See calendar at right.)
Yes, I am a glutton for punishment.

Spirit of the Marathon Movie - January 24
Just heard about a cool new movie that will be playing one night only at select theaters called Spirit of the Marathon. From the movie Web site:"Spirit of the Marathon is the first ever non-fiction feature film to capture the drama and essence of the famed 26.2 mile running event. Filmed on four continents, the movie brings together a diverse cast of amateur athletes and marathon luminaries.
As six unique stories unfold, each runner prepares for and ultimately faces the challenge of the Chicago Marathon. More than a sports movie, Spirit of the Marathon is an inspirational journey of perseverance and personal triumph; a spectacle that will be embraced by runners and non-runners alike."
